This is an unusual
picture of Ralph Hulbert from Fairlee, Vermont. Hulbert was a sniper with
the 10th Mountain Division during World War II. Instead of carrying an
issue 45 caliber pistol, Hulbert took along his hand-crafted takedown
longbow and a quiver full of arrows into combat. The bow served as his
secondary weapon in combat in Italy. After the War, Hulbert donated his
bow to the Denver Museum of Natural History.
